BIOWIESEL HOUSTON
“Bio-Wiesel” is the product name for my own line of bio-diesel - an alternative fuel sourced
from used kitchen grease and fry oil. The name comes from a New York Post front page
headline on Jan 24, 2003 that denounces the French and German heads of state as “The
Axis of Weasel.” Siding with our current administration the New York Post clearly believes
it is all our responsibilities to join the fight whether on the oil fields of Iraq or at the gas
pump at home. If these are our choices then I say, Let me be the Weasel!
For Project Row Houses in Houston, Texas I partnered with Frenchy’s Fried Chicken who
provided fryer oil to convert into bio diesel. The photography taken by Michael Parry
documents my walk from Project Row Houses to the restaurant. It is still illegal to collect
fryer oil without a permit so I disguised myself as an ice cream vendor to the dismay of
some local kid who were sorry to find no ice cream today… Once back at Project Row Houses
my basic chemistry set was put to use and produced bio diesel. The house was turned into a
gas station with a sign in front promoting our brand.
